Rest and Recover

We Survived The Week

Today is the day where we should be able to rest from the craziness of the week.

I know for many of us, however, today is the day in which we try to catch upon our house chores, the dishes, the laundry, the grocery shopping, and the kids youth activities, but I want to remind you of the importance to make some time to rest in order to refresh your mind, body, and soul.

God reminds us how important this is or He wouldn’t have it in the Bible.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew‬ ‭11:28‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Consider this, My Friend. You will not regret it. Give your body and your mind this much needed down time.

The Battle of Courage

Journaling Journey

It is Friday night again and we are sitting here together as Kiddo does another week of IgG Infusions.

This is not the best way for her to spend her Friday night, as most college students her age are out having fun, but doing it tonight is proving to be so much better for her.

By doing this on Friday night she is able to go to bed and sleep off the side effects that she was was trying to work (literally through) before she changed to Friday night. She is also able to rest her body tomorrow as she struggles through the remaining side effects.

She is amazingly strong and courageous. Every time she does this, she amazes me at the strength she has to sit there and inject 4 separate needles into her legs and then sit there for an hour or more while she waits for the infusion to finish.

For all she battles with her body on a daily basis, it breaks my heart to watch her, but I also find a sense of pride to call her my daughter because I know she has dig deep down inside to do something that the rest of us take for granted every day.

Her road ahead looks a bit dark as we struggle to figure out what it is going to take to give her her life back, but thankfully after four long hard years of struggling already and battling for the fights we have won and battling the fights we have lost, we are closer now to finding this solution than she has ever been in the years back.

It is my prayer that the journey she is on with the new medicines and treatments that there will be an end to this battle she battles within her body.

I was going to get ready to close until she just read me this amazingly fitting bible verse which I will share with you as well,

God is with her, she will not fall. Ps 46:5

God, you are amazing with your timing.

I was not going to write tonight as I often feel like what I write is not important and would not affect anyone else, but with closing with this verse and knowing Kiddo has no idea what I am doing, I know I was meant to write this tonight.

If you are battling a battle that is one you never dreamt you would battle, know you are not alone.

God has your back just as He has my daughter’s. He is with you, My Friend!

Find peace and comfort in this tonight.

Now I am going to close as I am sure Kiddos infusion should be close to being finished.

My friend, rest tonight. Allow God to take the burdens of the week away from you and sleep in the protection of His arms tonight.

The Real of Holiday Survival

img_3690

I am going to reveal the “reality” of my not so perfect holiday season with the hope if your holiday season was not all you wanted it to be, that this will encouraged you to know you are not the only one who struggled to get through a less than perfect Christmas season.

“Revelation and reality gives us the strength to conquer the messiness of life. ” HD Benson

We often times find ourselves comparing our lives to the perfection of the lives we see around us. When we watch Hallmark movies, we see everything is perfectly decorated and all the homemade Christmas treats are perfectly made and decorated. Then there is the perfection we see on FaceBook and on Instagram posts.

My Friend, this is not a reality. Do not compare your life to what you see in others. They only show you what they want you to see. They do not show you what is real and messy.

Now, I am going to show you my real and my messy with the hopes of encouraging you if yours looked anything like mine, it is okay because we all survived and got through another holiday season.

This week has been a week where I found myself in need of rest from an incredibly exhausting past few weeks and a grueling holiday season.

Once we finished with Thanksgiving, I decided to help my daughter who was extremely sick, finish her college semester in school. As her mom, who knows all she had gone through with her health and watched her struggle with pain and sickness for two straight months, I could not watch her fall into a pit of darkness and failure.

Instead, I put on my cheerleading clothes and drug out the pompoms and went to town. She was in desperate need of encouragement and strength and “mom” support, which I did for her. I stopped everything Christmas, stayed up late with her, got up early and she finished. She not only finished, but she finished with amazing grades. I am super proud of her for what she achieved in her first semester of college. I am praying for her health becomes better managed and her semester to come, is a much better one for her.

Once she finished her last class, it was time to jump back into Christmas mode, which I had avoided to give her everything she needed to get through this semester. I avoided the calendar to see how close we were getting to Christmas. I did everything possible to remain stress-free to keep my family happy and grounded during this crazy holiday season. However, when it was all done and I looked at the calendar, it was not pretty. I had one week to get five weeks worth of work done. I had to shop (as I had not bought one gift for anyone). I had to make the gifts we were giving away and I had not baked my first Christmas dessert yet. I told myself I had to do all of this with the minimalist amount of stress to keep the holiday cheer in my house.

What I have not mentioned was the really bad cold my daughter had, went through all of us. I had to take her to the doctor twice, my husband twice and the night of his first Emergency Room visit, I ran a fever that night and I ended up catching it as well and became extremely sick, but I fought my way through it to make Christmas happen.

With the strength God gave me and with His guidance to get through it all, I finished everything at 11:40 on Christmas Eve. It was all done and I could breathe again.

I wish I could say this all happened with no stress, but I can not. I did, however, make every effort of minimalizing it and that I feel like I accomplished it. I also have to confess that I was only able to pull off the first five days because my doctor put me on steroids as well as a steroid injection and an inhaler which enabled me to get a lot done because I do not handle steroids and sleep.

As a result of the steroids, I did begin to feel better and they gave me the extra energy that I needed to finish Christmas in time, but the exhausted crash that came afterward has been horrible. I needed this week to just rest and sleep to get caught back up.

This is the “real” and the raw of how my holidays went this year. I am, however, extremely thankful to hear back from not only my family but from my mom as well, that this was one of our best Christmas’s we have had in a long time.

Despite the sacrifices I made early on to help my daughter, they paid off in the end. It was not a traditional holiday season for me, but it came together in the very end and thankfully it all turned out well.

My friend, it does not matter how yours looked, whether it was wrought with challenges or it went smoothly, all that matters is that you tried and it is all done now for another year.

Now I will wish you all Happy New Year. It is my prayer this coming year will be one of peace and joy, changes if you are in need of them and the grace to accept everything that comes your way.

Take Time To Rest Your Mind And Your Body

Christmas Note of Encouragement

Dear Tired Mom,

Do you feel like you are running around in a circle with no end in sight?

Do you still have presents to buy or presents to wrap?

Are your kids going to the kitchen looking for a snack and you cringe at the question that is coming next. “Mom, where are the Christmas cookies?” Then your response is, “I haven’t made them yet.”

My sweet tired mom, at this point it is okay to readjust your list and start removing things from it. It is okay to not get everything done.

If you were to ask your family they would rather have you engaged with them in an activity together then have you running around with your head cut off.

It is also okay to sit back and relax with a good book, blanket, cocoa, and popcorn. It is okay to turn on a movie and sit back and relax or take a nap.

The key is to make the time to breathe, my friend. If you do, God will bless you with the time to get everything done.

You can only push your body so far before it shuts down.  I promise this happens because it happens to me all the time. I am not good at taking my own advice.

God wants you to take care of yourself as much as you to want be there for your family. He created you and He knows what you can handle. He also knows there is strength in rest. This is why He commands us to do it.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew‬ ‭11:28‬ ‭NIV‬‬

My friend, truly examine what you have left to be ready for Christmas and allow yourself the ability to enjoy the next three days. It will go by quickly. Then before you know it, December 26th will be here and it will be over. Breathe, my friend, breathe and make the time to rest today.

Hope Provides Strength

Encouragement Today and Weekend Reminder

Hope is found in the ability to rest. Allow yourself the time to rest this weekend. If you are tired and beat down from the stress of life, cling to these words…

“Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the Earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and His understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power to the weak.” Isaiah 40:28-29 NIV

God is there to strengthen you and provide you with the hope that tomorrow will be brighter than today.

Also yourself the time to rest your mind, body and soul so you will be able to receive His complete blessing of rejuvenation and restoration.

Breathe, My Friend and rest your mind while allowing God to refresh you this weekend.

Rest Is Necessary

Encouragement Today and Weekend Reminder

Did you have a long week? If you did, be sure to take some time to decompress. I promise you burnout is not a fun place to be. It takes everything you have out of you leaving you drained and exhausted.

Protect yourself mentally, emotionally, and physically to prevent this from occurring because once it sets in, it is so much harder to take care of your loved one when you have nothing left to give.

Take the time this weekend to reset and allow yourself the time to breathe again. Rest your mind, clear it, and allow it to heal from all you have been through.

Even God instructed us to rest because He knew when He created us that we would only be able to handle so much physically and mentally before we broke. Listen to your body, My Friend! Allow it to rest so your week to come will be much easier for you to get through.

I am praying you have a restful weekend!

True Silence Is Rest To The Mind

Encouragement Today and Weekend Reminder

310C7E9B-681B-4027-84EC-F8F94B29CEAE

This is your weekend reminder to take the time to rest your mind, body, and soul.

My friend, burn out is not worth all you go through if you do not take this time to rest. Trust me, it is much better to allow yourself this time than it is to push your body and mind beyond its limits.

If you see your life as too busy to allow yourself the time to recuperate from the busy week, then your body will rob you of it any way. God created our bodies with the need to rest and recuperate and if you do not listen, they will break down and will force you to stop.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28 NIV

My friend, you will enjoy this period of rest if you take it, then if your body takes it for you. It is much better to set your own time-table and allow yourself the time to breathe and enjoy it.

Make the time to…

STOP… BREATHE… REST

Look for something you have been wanting to do and allow yourself the time to finally do it. Go for that walk on the beach or through the woods. Pick up that book that has been calling your name or gather your materials for the project you want to create.

Think about your passion and take the time to enjoy it.

Happy Weekend!!

Roadtrips To Friendships

Encouragement Today

B15AA224-BEF9-46AE-ADFF-5EB460162C36I am sharing my special weekend retreat through today’s blog post.

If you follow my blog for any length of time, you will see that friendship is dear to my heart.

I cherish each and every person I have in my life. I truly believe God placed each and every person in my heart for a specific purpose and reason.

My mini weekend retreat was driving four hours down the road to spend about seven to eight hours with a friend who is so dear to us that she is like a family member.

I am just praying God will protect my child’s body and protect her from a physical body shut down as a result of this long day. She has been sick for three weeks with a sinus infection and thankfully, with an emergency ENT (Ear, Nose, Throat Specialist) visit what she is experiencing now is not an infection, but in fact is sinus swelling which is causing the pain which mimics the pain and pressure of a sinus infection. Her spring time allergies are out of control which is what is causing her sickness now.

If you would be so kind and join me in praying over her body so this mini retreat doesn’t set her back in being sick, I would appreciate it.

To see her struggle to have a “normal” active life is  heartbreaking, but she tries with every ounce of strength she has.

To go see our special friend was my kiddo’s ultimate decision because she loves her like a sister. I left it up to her respecting her need to live “normally” while working around her chronic illnesses.

Today, we took this quote literally because our friendship with our sweet friend has been through many hardships.

“Friendship isn’t about who you’ve known the longest, it’s about who walked in to your life, said “I’m here for you,” and PROVED it.”
— Unknown

Our friendship has seen a divorce, a move, sickness and five surgeries.

She has gone above and beyond the call of duty for us and it is my desire to do the same for her. In the nearer future we will be divided by an ocean for a couple of years, but I know this is not a threat to our friendship. It will only draw us closer.

“As in water face reflects face, So a man’s heart reveals the man.”
‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭27:19‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Our friendship is truly special because her heart is her heart is pure, her loyalty is solid, her intentions are honest and her love is deep.

I was richly blessed today to spend but only a few hours with her, but the memories we made will last a life time.

My sweet friend, take some time this weekend to build and store away some precious memories. They are what we look back on and brings the joy back in our lives when darkness is all around us.

Slow Down and Smell The Roses

Encouragement Today

5795FEC2-19B9-43B8-8F3E-A885F23C4D94Today’s reminder is to slow down when life seems like it is spinning of control.

How many times do you get lost in the busyness of life’s craziness?

You keep going from chore to chore, project to project, activity to activity and you forgot to enjoy the simple things of life.

Did you forget what it is like slow down and smell the roses (per say), to see the butterfly on the flower, the hear the birds singing outside, or to hear the music playing on the radio?

Sometimes life gets so busy that we forget what it is like to slow down long enough to breathe.

Today’s challenge is to slow down long enough to enjoy the simple things in life again.

What do you enjoy, but forgot what it is like to simply do it any longer?

Take some time today to let those simple pleasures in your life pass through your heart and permeate your soul again.

Today’s challenge will allow you to refresh and reset your life again.

Rest For The Weary

God Commands Us To Rest

But why is that simple task so hard to do?

Is there anyone else who struggles with this ability? As a stay at home wife, mom, and homeschool teacher I feel like there is always something that should be done like laundry, wash the dishes and clean the kitchen, clean the floors, prepare for school, and so much more. I struggle with the chores that still need to be done despite the fact it is a weekend. It doesn’t matter to me if it is Saturday or Sunday, the chores are all still the same.

img_1265

When this goes on and on, it makes me weary and weak. I struggle with frustration, being grouchy, and because of the stress we live with, I have found I am now struggling with anger.

The worst part about all of this for me is the anger because I had never been an angry person until life became so hard. I know God frowns upon my anger just as He frowns upon my busyness, but when this lifestyle becomes a habit, I have found it hard to break.

I know the Bible has many references to resting and  have included several below, but the question still remains, why is this so hard?

“Six days you shall work, but on the seventh day you shall rest; in plowing time and in harvest you shall rest.”
‭‭Exodus‬ ‭34:21‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

“I am not at ease, nor am I quiet; I have no rest, for trouble comes.”
‭‭Job‬ ‭3:26‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭11:28‬ ‭NKJV

I see it in writing and I believe God’s word to be truth, but yet I struggle. Why? As my sweet friend reminds me, I am allowing the enemy to spread his lies to me and I give in by listening. Another bad habit to fall in. Yikes! I am seeing a horrible trend of giving the enemy way too much power over my life.

Do you find yourself struggling with the same area? What do you do to fight against this? God tells me through his word that spending more time in prayer and in His word and listening to praise and worship music is the key to drowning out the enemy’s voice. So here goes. My attempt to intentionally drown out the voice of the enemy.

Ok back to reality because unfortunately, I find that the busyness of my life gets in the way of my making the time I need to spend with God.  Am I the only one who struggles here?

In my attempt to live my life more intentional I am going to make more time in my life for God so that I will break the habit of listening to the lies which have been dictating my life for the past few years.

As I travel this intentional journey of seeking God’s voice, His truth, and His guidance you will see me posting more about it .  I will be posting encouraging music and videos, encouraging pictures and posts here to share what I learn with you as well.

Hang in there Friend who is struggling along beside me. We will conquer this battle together! We can do this! God is going to give us the strength and the guidance when we need it and will bless us with the ability to rest when we need it weary friend.
