Recognizing My Daughter Today

It is National Daughter’s Day

I am recognizing my sweet daughter for National Daughter’s Day.

I love you Kiddo. Your heart is a sweet and gentle one. You are fun loving and I just love your sense of humor. You always know how to make me laugh at just the right times.

God has special plans for your life and although it is busy now and isn’t always easy for you, one day it will all be worth it.

I love you Katarine!! You make me proud to be you momma!

Honoring Our Fallen on Memorial Day

I am remembering my dad today. If he had not been wounded on the battlefield in Vietnam, he would be here today.

He was an amazingly gentle and humble man who became a Marine by choice and he died a Marine by grace.

As I remember and honor my dad today I am keeping my mom in my thoughts and prayers as not a second of every day she doesn’t think of or miss him.

He touched many hearts and lives of those who were blessed to know him for he never met a stranger.

Time and death separates us now, but Heaven will reunite us one day.

Until then, God blessed me with many memories that keeps him close at heart.

Honoring Mothers Today

To the moms who are struggling today (for the many various reason there are), I want you to know you are loved for the gentle spirit you are.

You are special for the million tiny things you do, that no one sees, and you are beautiful because God made you so.

Today is the day we honor you as a mother, but it doesn’t stop with today.

As a mother, we know you are important every day of the week and every month of the year.

Take some time today to just breathe and know, despite the lack of possible acknowledgement, you are important and you are special!!

Mother’s Day Gift Book

I am promoting another wonderfully amazing book, Dear Mom Letters, written by Rachel Marie Martin.

It was designed to encourage the busy mom who is in need of a few quite moments.

Consider getting this for your mom (if she loves books and stories such as the ones you will find in this book), or for your busy mom friend, or for your frazzled daughter who is trying to find her way through this busy time.

Celebrate and Reflect

Easter Greetings

Today is a day of celebration and reflection as we take the time to share this sweet Easter Day together.

Whether you are alone or you are with family or friends, take some time today to not only celebrate the bunny and the eggs, but celebrate and reflect back on the reason for the season.

My friend, Christ came to walk the Earth just like you and I. He had people who liked Him and loved Him as well as people who did not, but He stood steadfast on the truth He preached leading up to this time of His death and His resurrection.

Despite Christ, who called out,

“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, so far from my cries of anguish?” Psalm 22:1 NIV

The gentle reminder here is His Father never left Him, no matter how much pain He was in or how lonely He felt at the dark moment.

My Friend, God knew everything going on during that horrible day. None of this was a surprise to Him, because there was a mighty plan and a purpose for His Son to suffer that unbearable pain and death.

God had to watch His Son die an excruciating death in order to save each and everyone of us from our own mortality.

Jesus died so that we would live,

“For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.” 1 Thessalonians‬ ‭4:14‬ NIV

My friend, just as Christ felt alone that one dark Friday, two-thousand of years ago, there was a joy in the celebration of His resurrection three days later.

No matter where you are in your journey, what pain you may be feeling, or how dark your life may feel, remember this truth today;

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John‬ ‭3:16‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Just as God allowed His Son to suffer on that cross, He welcomed Him in His arms immediately following His death.

My friend, God has a plan for you as well. As a result of His Son, Jesus’ death, we now have life. This life is not dependent on how easy or difficult your life may be, but it is a promise God has offered to us, if we choose to accept this gift.

I have a challenge for you if you find yourself in a difficult situation. Take some time today to reflect back on where you have been, where you are, and where you are going in your life. Take some time to reflect back on how God has been with you and has not forsaken you, just as He did not forsake His only Son as He hung on a cross.

My friend, you may be saying, but He hasn’t been here with me. He has abandoned me because I wouldn’t be where I am today if He had not.

I am here to gently remind you just as Christ, for a moment, thought the same thing; we know from scriptures that God did not abandoned His Son, just as He has not abandoned you.

No matter how difficult today may be for you, take the time to celebrate our Risen Savior, for through His death, we will live.

Happy Easter!

Bringing Simplicity Back To Christmas

Christmas Encouragement

Today’s inspiration is coming to you via the “Sounds of the Season”.

Check out this amazingly beautiful song brought to you by Pentatonix – Where are you, Christmas?

As I was preparing my recipe for today, this popped up on my computer. I was inspired by its beauty. It is hard to believe the sounds of this beautiful song comes from the harmonizing of this group. No instrumentation is required for them to bring the sound of this to life.

I hope you enjoy it as well.

I am feeling led to share some encouraging sounds of Christmas this year. I feel by bringing back some of the simple things of Christmas helps to bring back the simplicity of the Holiday Season.

I for one, know how important this is to me this year. I only have my Christmas decorations up but have not done anything else yet. I haven’t even started shopping, this is how far behind I am. I am choosing to not look at the calendar to see how close we are to Christmas. I am trying, with every ounce of strength I have, to not stress over everything I have not done yet.

I find, if I can cling to some of the simple things of the holiday, it will help to keep me from stressing over everything I have not done.

If you find yourself where I am right now, my suggestion to you is a simple one. Just breathe! We will get through the craziness of the holiday while hoping to save the magic of the season.

Merry Christmas, My Friend!!

Fresh New Beginnings Start Today

Christmas Note of Encouragement

Today’s encouragement is a simple one, but one I think we forget when life becomes busy.

“Seize Today

For each new day is a fresh new start.”

@homelife&encouragement.com

It is so easy to fall into the trap of…

  • getting up every day
  • going to work every day
  • going home every day
  • running errands every day
  • going to school every day

Then you go home you tackle the daily life chores. It is time to wash the laundry, wash the dishes, make the meals, do the homework, prepare for the next day, and go to bed. Then the cycle begins all over again the next day.

My friend, I am here to remind you today to seize the day and look for ways to break the vicious cycle of life and make it fun and enjoyable again.

Today’s challenge is to take a step back and evaluate your life. Determine where you can add some freshness to your life, especially during this Holiday Season.

If you took some time to try this, you might be amazed at how much happier you could feel. In my humble opinion, any time you find the time to seek happiness and simplicity in your life, that makes for one of the best Christmas presents ever.

It is my prayer if you do this today, you will find some holiday cheer that will make the week to come a little more pleasurable for you.

Merry Christmas, My Friend!

Is It Monday, Again?

Journaling Journey

Random Thoughts of Monday

It is Monday again and not just an ordinary Monday, but the one following Thanksgiving. I find myself left with the question of, “already?” It does not seem possible the Holidays are back again already.

I lost track of time in writing from the last time I wrote because I did, in fact, paint the trim in my freshly painted house.

Despite the post I wrote a time or two back, I knew it needed to be done despite any resistance that I could have been met with, but in the end, painting the trim was thankfully met with appreciation instead.  It truly freshened up the look of our house and helped to transform our house back into a home again.

My daughter is completely happy with the updated look and this makes me happy. I know she is older, but I want our home to always be a place of comfort, safety, and love.

In all of this downtime between the last time I wrote and today, I pulled off getting my house updated and fresh again. We celebrated my daughter’s twenty-first birthday, celebrated Thanksgiving, and I transformed our home into a Christmas Wonderland for another year.

When I decorate our house this means our living room, dining room, kitchen, and family room. Every room takes on a Christmas look in some fashion or another.

It took me several days of decorating so I started the day before Thanksgiving because I love having our dining room decorated for our Thanksgiving meal. We have a Soldier Christmas Tree in that room. We first decorated that tree eight years ago when my husband was deployed and I wanted a special tree to serve as a visual reminder of all of our Soldiers who would not be home for the holidays. We have dark brown Christmas ornaments on that tree to serve as a reminder of them being in Iraq that year.

I keep this tradition alive even today because although my husband is no longer a Soldier in the Army, there are many other Service members who are not home for the Holidays because they are away Serving our Country.

I decorate our family room in blue lights because we still, to this day, use a four-foot tabletop tree we used in our apartment foyer when we lived in Germany. We bring those decorations out every year to serve as a reminder of the first few years we were married and stationed so far away from home.

As for the rest of the house, it is game on for tradition. The kitchen is decorated with a simplistic look and our living room is decorated with a traditional Christmas look mixed in with a little bit of European. We have our large family tree in the living room and it is decorated with all our special ornaments. Lastly, I bring out our German Nutcrackers and spread them throughout the room which completes the decorated space.

This year I had an agenda to get my decorating done by this past weekend. I needed it done so I could get back into focusing on life again.

What I have failed to mention is that my Kiddo is sick again. She picked up a cold a couple of weeks ago and we thought she was going to be able to fight it, but just when we let our guard down because she was feeling better, it came back with a vengeance.

Now she is really sick and unfortunately, it is with everything she does not have the immunity to fight on her own. I took her to the doctor and she was diagnosed with strep throat, pink eye, laryngitis, and inflamed sinuses.

He decided with everything she had to give her an antibiotic to prevent this from getting worse, but here we are and it is Monday, and she feels even worse. The only thing that is better is her pink eye.

So now I sit here writing and waiting for the doctor’s office to call me back with some direction in what to do with all of this.

This is why I needed our Christmas decorations up so when sickness consumed our time again, I would have the creature comforts of home for the holidays done and not have the stress of decorating hanging over my heard adding even more stress to my plate.

Not many people understand what our life entails with sickness always being at the forefront of our life, but it, unfortunately, is our reality.

There are so many days that I live in frustration, such as today. I do not know what to do to make my daughter feel better. I know she needs to get her lessons in college done as the semester is going to come to a close quickly. She needs to get back to campus to enroll in the next semester’s worth of classes, which she was going to do this week, but with this crud hanging over her head and her not feeling good and not able to talk yet, I do not know if she will get there this week or not.

This is the unpredictability of our life. It is a hard way to live and one I get so frustrated with living with. Between this poor kid’s migraines and immune deficiency running her life, everything we do is just put on hold.

She does not have control over any of this and I know this. I try to be as supportive as I know how to be. It just breaks my heart to see her struggling so much.

I had a picture pop up on my computer from a few years ago and I find myself missing those days so much. I find when I look at pictures of her now I can see in her face and in her eyes when her health took the turn it did. I do not know what God’s purpose in any of this is or how long she will have to struggle and suffer, but it is my constant prayer, He will bless her in a mighty way for all of it.

In closing, I want you to know I am still here and it is my Christmas hope and prayer to be able to encourage you as we travel into this Christmas Season.

This blog post took me all day to write as I wrote it in increments, but I am going to still post it even though it is the end of the day. It is just symbolic of how my day flow. Some days go smoothly and some are just getting through one interruption after another. You can clearly tell what kind of day today was for me.

I hope you had a good Monday. I hope it was one of productivity. It is my prayer for you that your week will go smoothly and you will accomplish many things.

Have a great week!
