Opening Our Hearts to Gratitude

Credit:Homelifeandencouragement.com

It is so easy to get knocked down by all that life throws our way. The busyness, the relationship struggles, the soccer practices, football games, dance recitals, or work struggles; but I want to be your place of encouragement this month. I want to be that gentle reminder to look past it all and find something to be thankful for today.

I am a firm believer that if we look for bad, we will find it at every turn, but if we look for good, we will find it too, in the midst of the mud and the muck.

I will be posting daily reminders in one fashion or another to remind you to look for at least one, if not more, things to be thankful in everyday of this month.

Feel free to leave your comments below. If you would to leave them private message annotate that and I will not make your comment public.

Happy November!

Dust Yourself Off and See Your Beauty

How quickly the days get ahead of us. How quickly we fall back into unhealthy routines?

How quickly we forget we were trying to change something in our life, but the “old” crept back in and life fell back into the “normal”, but wait, we were changing that “normal”.

This is what happens to me. Life is good when I stay on top of the new, but let life get busy and doctor appointments take back over our days and weeks and I quickly fall back into the old life, the life I am trying to change. The life that is comfortable because it is what I know, but the life that is unhealthy for me to continue to live.

I am trying so hard to live a life that is intentional and one that includes “me”, but I continually find it is hard to live.

I have spent my entire life thinking of others and how what I do affects them, that I left me behind. I struggle with believing what is right for me is important. I grew up believing that putting myself ahead of others was selfish.

Now all these years later, I have learned there has to be a balance to the philosophy of putting others first and it not be selfish to think of myself too, but what does this balance look like now in my life?

How do I know what is selfish and what is healthy?

Is this something you battle too?

My friend, I am here to tell you I do not have the answer for either one of us, but I can tell you the journey I am trying to seek and keep failing at miserably is this…

I am trying to seek a journey to live my brave.
I am trying to live a journey where fear does not run my life and my efforts.
I am trying to figure “me” into the equation of what I am doing every day and where do I fit into it.
I am trying to make decisions that not only make others happy, but makes me happy as well.
I am trying to consider my health and well being into decisions I am making.
I am trying to live an “honest” life for me.
I am trying to remember I too am important in the decisions I make.

Does any of this sound like you? If it does, know you are not alone and know that no matter how many times we may fall, that our destination in the end will be beautiful and worth fighting for.

As I continue this journey the word God brings to me is perseverance. I included the definition of it because it is powerful to what God trying to remind me of.

per·se·ver·ance

noun / persistence in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success. – New Oxford Dictionary

God also reminds us through His own words that perseverance is an important trait because no matter how many times we may fall, the fact we get back up and try and try again, will enable us to reach our goal. His objective for us to allow us to mature and to finish our journey and in the end lack for nothing.

“Let perseverance finish its work so that you may mature and complete, not lacking anything.” – James 1:4 NIV

How ironic as I write this, that as parents do we not want the same for our own children and families? We watch them struggle in areas we can not do anything about, but we watch and pray that they stand back up, dust themselves off and try again.

My friend, God wants the same for us. He is watching us set our goals for our own personal lives. He watches us do really well for a while and over time we slip back into our old ways, but He doesn’t give up on us. He watches us and prays over us and allows us to fall, but encourages us to stand back up, dust ourselves off, and try again.

So today my friend, is the day that I stand back up, dust myself off and try again. Have you fallen and need to stand back up and dust yourself off too?

Well, today is the day that we stand together and hand in hand we take our steps together to march forward toward our destinations.

We do not have to do it alone. Together we can stand firm and hold each other up while encouraging each other that we are worth all the efforts we put forth and even the falls we may make. We can even pledge to hold our hands out and pick each other back up.

My Friend, we are worth the effort.

The Battle of Courage

Journaling Journey

It is Friday night again and we are sitting here together as Kiddo does another week of IgG Infusions.

This is not the best way for her to spend her Friday night, as most college students her age are out having fun, but doing it tonight is proving to be so much better for her.

By doing this on Friday night she is able to go to bed and sleep off the side effects that she was was trying to work (literally through) before she changed to Friday night. She is also able to rest her body tomorrow as she struggles through the remaining side effects.

She is amazingly strong and courageous. Every time she does this, she amazes me at the strength she has to sit there and inject 4 separate needles into her legs and then sit there for an hour or more while she waits for the infusion to finish.

For all she battles with her body on a daily basis, it breaks my heart to watch her, but I also find a sense of pride to call her my daughter because I know she has dig deep down inside to do something that the rest of us take for granted every day.

Her road ahead looks a bit dark as we struggle to figure out what it is going to take to give her her life back, but thankfully after four long hard years of struggling already and battling for the fights we have won and battling the fights we have lost, we are closer now to finding this solution than she has ever been in the years back.

It is my prayer that the journey she is on with the new medicines and treatments that there will be an end to this battle she battles within her body.

I was going to get ready to close until she just read me this amazingly fitting bible verse which I will share with you as well,

God is with her, she will not fall. Ps 46:5

God, you are amazing with your timing.

I was not going to write tonight as I often feel like what I write is not important and would not affect anyone else, but with closing with this verse and knowing Kiddo has no idea what I am doing, I know I was meant to write this tonight.

If you are battling a battle that is one you never dreamt you would battle, know you are not alone.

God has your back just as He has my daughter’s. He is with you, My Friend!

Find peace and comfort in this tonight.

Now I am going to close as I am sure Kiddos infusion should be close to being finished.

My friend, rest tonight. Allow God to take the burdens of the week away from you and sleep in the protection of His arms tonight.

Letting Go of The Extra Weight You Are Carrying

Encouragement Today

img_3567

My Friend, today is the day I want you to look at what you are carrying, whether it is physical or emotional, and I want you to set that baggage down while releasing the energy that is associated with it.

Be thinking about what has you weighed down in life? What have you been avoiding? What conflict have you been resisting because you did not have the strength or the courage to face it?

Today is the day to address the difficulty you are faced with and tackle it head-on.

  • Take care of it!
  • Do it!
  • Challenge it!
  • Face it!
  • Conquer it!

Do not let the power of fear consume you any longer. Do not let your thoughts persuade you this is wrong, for many times our thoughts are what hold us captive and allow the fear we feel to consume us leaving us vulnerable and out of control.

“Thoughts may have power, but actions triumph in the end.” – HD Benson

Walk bravely and with confidence knowing, in the end, it will be finished. The baggage you are carrying will be left behind as you walk away from this difficulty and you will be renewed with a peace that you have not felt in a long time.

I will give you to the end of the week and I want you to be able to breathe a deep sigh of relief while boldly and bravely saying, “It is DONE!”

You can do this. You are braver than you think and stronger than you believe. I have confidence in you. Grab that same confidence and run with it. Allow it to take hold of you and conquer what lies ahead.

Lastly, remember this… YOU ARE ENOUGH! You can do this!!!

Feel free to leave a comment below and either share with me what you are going to let go or share with me what you accomplished.

I would love to share in your joy or walk prayerfully beside you as you tackle this difficult challenge. If you wish to keep it between us, leave that request with your comment and I will keep your request private.

Encouragement Today

23479DD6-115B-4B38-B85D-B1C468C91251Today’s Encouragement is to inspire you to remember,

“It is not the mountain we conquer but ourselves.“  Edmund Hillary

Have you ever had to finish a task that made you worn out, frustrated and purely exhausted?

Have you ever experienced what it is like to cram for a big project at work or study for a big exam in school? You knew there was an important deadline staring at you, but the level of pure exhaustion and frustration was wearing you down? You knew deep down inside, you could not work for one more hour, but that was not an option because the deadline had to be met.

Have you ever ran thru an obstacle course and before you got to the end, your body was so exhausted and worn out, it wanted to shut down and stop, but to quit was not an option. You had a fierce determination to finish the race no matter how long it was.

Lastly, have you ever made a long drive and you were mentally and physically exhausted, but you still had another hour or two before you got there? As you looked at the clock and drove by the mileage signs you knew you could not drive one more hour or one more mile, but stopping was not an option. You had to push forward and stay awake in order to arrive at your final destination.

YOUTRU~1The commonality among all of these scenarios is that no matter how tired, beat down or physically exhausted you were, you did not give in to the temptation to quit. You pushed through the exhaustion and climbed over the mental barrier and persevered to the end. You did not let the mental and physical obstacles get in the way of completing your task. You trusted in your ability and determination to conquer the fears you faced, the mental exhaustion that had you worn out and the physical pain you experienced to pursue your goals to the end.

You are stronger mentally and physically than you ever knew. You are courageous to pursue the obstacle and see it to the end. You are wiser for the battles you fought and won, and you are braver than any obstacle or mountain that tried to stand in your way. You are a fierce warrior who stood strong and tall and conquered what you set out to do.

Way to go, my faithful warrior and friend!!

Stand tall and proud for what you have accomplished.
