Opening Our Hearts to Gratitude

It is so easy to get knocked down by all that life throws our way. The busyness, the relationship struggles, the soccer practices, football games, dance recitals, or work struggles; but I want to be your place of encouragement this month. I want to be that gentle reminder to look past it all and find something to be thankful for today.

I am a firm believer that if we look for bad, we will find it at every turn, but if we look for good, we will find it too, in the midst of the mud and the muck.

I will be posting daily reminders in one fashion or another to remind you to look for at least one, if not more, things to be thankful in everyday of this month.

Feel free to leave your comments below. If you would to leave them private message annotate that and I will not make your comment public.

Happy November!

Touching Lives With Your Power To Love

A Life Challenge

Today’s reminder is a simple one, to share your love for those people who are important to you.

So many times, we get consumed by our busyness, that we forget to reach out to those who remain by our sides through every aspect of our life.

Do not take for granted the relationships you hold dear to your heart. Reach out today and show your appreciation to them.

Send a text that simply says, thank you, I appreciate your love or friendship. I am thankful for you or you are beautiful or handsome and I believe in you.

If a text does not work, try making a phone call, or do a quick drive by where they live or work. If these are not appropriate, try an invitation to go out for a coffee or tea. If you are feeling really inspired, try delivering a random boutique of flowers or their favorite little thoughtful gift.

It does not matter what you choose to do, but what does matter, is that you reach out and touch your loved one or special friend’s heart to say thank you, you mean everything to me.

Appreciate Your Family For All They Do

Encouragement Today

20171012_194424717_iOSBefore I get any further lost in my day, my encouraging thought that keeps coming to me today is to not take others for granted when they do things.

How many times do you look at a lawn that is mowed and manicured, a clean house, washed laundry, supper on the table every day?

My friend, your reminder today is to not take this for granted. It does not get done without someone keeping up with it. Unfortunately, when it is maintained on a regular basis we lose track of the fact someone is behind the scenes always doing it.

We often times take it for granted until something happens to the person who always takes care of certain chores. Then we see all they do.

Today’s challenge is to be observant and look around your home. Pay attention to if something is done for you. Does your spouse mow the lawn? Does your spouse prepare your meals? Do you come home from work to a clean house?

My friend, do not take this for granted. Show your loved one your appreciation for all they do to make your house a home. It does not get done because it is wished to be done. It takes someone hard work to keep it up and maintained. Show them that you appreciate their effort to help out around your home.

Appreciation

Encouragement Today

Today’s “Encouragement”  is based on appreciation and was inspired by the unexpected caring and love my family has shown me the past two days.

What you don’t know is that I have written my last two blog posts in between the massive migraine pain of my own.

My heart aches for all that my sweet daughter endures on a regular basis, but I also have a new appreciation for all the pain she goes through.

I don’t know how she does this multiple times a week for multiple days, weeks and even a couple of times, for a month.

There is just no way I could endure this pain on a regular basis. She takes being a trooper to a whole new level. She is my “Rock Star”

In my quest to improve my life, I found this quote to be not only profound but inspiring.

“As we develop a greater appreciation and affection for words that heal, bless and cheer, we will develop an even greater disdain for words that damage, disparage and disrupt.” Robert Burton

Have you fallen into a trap where you only see the negativity that lurks in the dark places all around you?

I know for me, it comes easily because nothing in our life comes easily.. I wish I had a dime for every time I have said, “Really, why does everything have to be so hard”. It doesn’t matter how easy or difficult the task, for me, it is “always” hard.

I say “always” in quotations because this is how hard life has become. I have learned to live and see the words that “… damage, disparage, and disrupt.”

I don’t want to continue live like this. I want to relearn and live the powerful meaning of the words that, “…heal, bless, and cheer.”

So in my quest to be observant when these positive words occur, I want to acknowledge the empathy and help my husband and daughter have given me these past two days during this ugly migraine.

I have been their caregiver and helper for so long that I had forgotten what it is like to have someone help me. I will even go so far as to admit I believed the lie I form in my head and heart that they didn’t care about me.

I am pleased to share my appreciation I have for them while they tried to help me through this ugly pain. Their actions of love broke the ice I had formed in my heart that they didn’t care about me any more.

How about you Sweet Friend? If you were to evaluate your own heart, what would you find? Is there ice freezing out some of your emotions? Do you need to relearn what it feels like to appreciate the people who are around you?

Consider this quote again,

“As we develop a greater appreciation and affection for words that heal, bless and cheer, we will develop an even greater disdain for words that damage, disparage and disrupt.” Robert Burton

My challenge today is to be observant and truly spend some time looking for the words and actions of those around you that will, “… heal, bless, and cheer your day”.

Feel free to leave a comment below and share your story of appreciation today so we can share and rejoice with you in your accomplishment.

As you accept this challenge, please know you are not alone in this quest. I am aware first hand at how difficult this can seem. However, when you open your eyes to watch for the opportunities to be appreciative you will experience the joy you once lost in your life again.

You’ve Got This Friend! I know you can do this.

Take the time to watch and listen for opportunities to be appreciative and know the more you do it, the easier it will become.
