“Enjoy Today for Today.
Do not focus on yesterday or tomorrow, just focus on today.”
– A Random Sweet Surgical Nurse
I remember a day back in February when I was at the hospital after my husband had surgery and I was stopped in the hall by a really sweet nurse. She had asked how I was doing as I am sure she could see the pure exhaustion on my face.
What she didn’t know at the time when she stopped me was my daughter had just had surgery of her own not just two weeks prior and she hadn’t recouperated for herself yet when my husband had gone down to a major surgery.
I was just moving like the energizer bunny on pure adrenaline. I was just going through the motions because that was all I could do at that time, but as I talked to this sweet nurse, she reminded me of a truth I still remember today.
Those words came to mind today as I started my day again with what it holds for me and my daughter. Another day and another doctor appointment. This is our “normal” despite how exhausting it is to have multiple appointments week after week.
As I got up refreshed this morning from the pure anxiety of what yesterday held, I felt relieved to know yesterday was done, but that was only until I remembered what today held for us. Thankfully these simple words came back to mind and brought me peace and comfort.
Are you experiencing a difficult time in your life? Are you running on pure adrenaline with the hopes it will sustain you until you can truly stop and breathe again.
Let these simple words bring you peace and encouragement today. Just focus on today, my friend.
I learned that was half the battle of getting through a day.
All too many times we get trapped into thinking about yesterday and how if we made different choices or decisions then today might be a little bit easier, or thinking about the worries of tomorrow, which only serves to compound the worry, stress, and exhaustion of today.
Stop! Today is Just Today.
Meditate on this verse today and allow it to bring a peace and calm to your spirit, mind, and body.
“And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:7 NIV
Hang in there my friend. You’ve got this no matter what is going on. You’ve got it because God has you. He is holding you up in His arms. Turn your worries, frustrations, and fears over to Him and let Him comfort you today. Enjoy and bask in the peace He will share with you today and focus only on that peace “today”.
