Today is a day that can be bittersweet . It can be either sweet or difficult as there are many variations of motherhood that are experienced. 

Some are celebrating the joys of motherhood while others dread it to the point of tears.

No matter what kind of day you have had and the reasons that affected them, I want you to know, you are not alone.

God knows your heart and rejoices with those who are blessed, while He wipes the tears of all who are hurting. 

No matter how you handled today, know you are loved by the One who created you.

Hope Comes From Above

Procrastination Leads To Difficult Days

Episode 3

Today I am keeping it real. Today I will be sharing a real struggle I had yesterday, but I am hoping by doing so it will bring you encouragement to know despite how difficult a day can be, it is not permanent.

I will begin by saying when I woke up yesterday, I woke up feeling frustrated, overwhelmed, and defeated.

As I got up, I had to address a mess my cat made due to my lack of taking proper care of his cat little box. Note I said, my lack of attention, not that it was his fault.

I was frustrated with myself because I had just done this in the past two weeks. I vowed back then I wouldn’t allow this to happen again, but here I was on my hands and knees cleaning up a huge mess that I did not want to address first thing in the morning.

I went from cleaning up that mess to addressing an out of control laundry situation, that I too, let get out of control. Despite my looking at this daunting task, I knew my frustration originated from procrastination.

However, there was a problem I had to address with my laundry. I had a clogged washing machine drain pipe and I needed to go to Home Depot to purchase some drain cleaner. This was a task I did not want to do, but needed to in order to wash my laundry.

Procrastination got me again. I know drain cleaner is something I need to have on hand, but not just on hand, I should use as a preventative measure, especially during high shedding seasons, such as times like these.

I did not though have any on hand though. I let my time get ahead of me and procrastinated buying the cleaner while I procrastinated using it.

Unfortunately, these two “catastrophes” happened on a morning that I did not feel good. I pushed through because I knew once I finished with these issues, I had a list right behind them to do.

I did finish cleaning my huge cat box mess and moved on to cleaning and sanitizing my bathroom and kitchen. By the time I finished with that I got sick and was forced to lay down afterwards.

I even did that to myself inadvertently, because I forgot to eat when I took my medicine for my bronchitis. I forgot to eat because I was so frustrated with everything I was trying to do that I created another uncomfortable situation.

I am just saying, you can not make this up. Do you see a common theme in my morning? I did not see this until I was writing about it, but the theme is procrastination.

If I did not procrastinate the important things, then I wouldn’t feel frustrated, out of control, or defeated.

Now for the moment of encouragement.

Did my morning today start out as badly as yesterday did? No, this morning I woke up feeling more calm and in control. Why, because I took care of the things that I procrastinated doing up to yesterday. Now they are done they are not weighing heavy on me.

Now, I have a clear mind to write this blog post, work on some online training I need to get done for work, and hopefully create some images for the women’s ministry I volunteer with.

My friend, are you struggling with being overworked, overloaded, and overall frustrated?

I wrote about living the every day “real” life and the messiness and frustration it creates because I know I am not the only one who struggles with this. It is so hard to prioritize what needs to be done and when it needs to be done by.

I am always reminded, you need to choose only the important things and let the other stuff go until you can do it later, but in living the “real” what does that priority look like?

As a result of letting things go, they became a big problem that came tumbling down on me yesterday.

My friend, I have a solution to live by, start making a tasks list.

I have a planner and when I use it, I am in better control over my life and all that it requires of me.

While many of us are isolating in our homes, now might be a great time to evaluate your life and how it is working for you when you are busy. Would you benefit from using a planner or even just a notebook and plan out what a reasonable week would look like to you?

Plan out certain days to do certain chores. I think of many of these being the things you tend to forget or procrastinate doing. Consider a plan that would be similar to this;

Monday

  • Sort and begin laundry first thing in the morning.
  • Make 2 days worth of lunches if you did not prepare over the weekend.
  • Wash dishes (if any in the sink) or load the dish washer.
  • Do a quick wipe down of bathroom sink and toilet.
  • Don’t forget to put the laundry in the dryer to fold and put away later.
  • Unload dish washer if dishes are clean and reload from the day.

Tuesday

  • Repeat loading washing machine if you have more laundry from Monday.
  • Do a quick fold of yesterdays laundry and be sure to add wet clothes, if you have any, in the dryer.
  • Do a quick vacuum over your floors or sweep the main part of your living space.
  • Take your trash out.
  • If you have a cat, clean your cat box.

Wednesday

  • Continue to cycle your laundry if this is a never-ending task.
  • Make three lunches if you did not already prep them over the weekend.
  • Be sure to clean your dishes whether by hand or dish washer.
  • Focus on cleaning kitchen counters and appliances. Pay special attention to how dirty your microwave may be.
  • Do a quick wipe down of bathroom sink and toilet.
  • Be sure to take your trash out if this is not a daily occurrence.

Thursday

  • Repeat cycling laundry. Fold any that you are able to fold and take 15 minutes to put away as much as you are able to.
  • Be sure to clean your dishes whether by hand or dish washer.
  • Check your refrigerator for old and moldy food. We are not trying to grow science experiments for the most of us. Clean out the food and make room for new food.
  • Clean your floors if you have not done so in the week.
  • If you have a cat, clean your cat box.

Friday

  • Repeat cycling laundry. Fold any that you are able to fold and take 15 minutes to put away as much as you are able to.
  • Be sure to clean your dishes whether by hand or dish washer.
  • Do a quick wipe down of bathroom sink and toilet.
  • Vacuum and sweep your floors thoroughly.
  • If you have time, do a quick mop on your kitchen and bathroom floors.

Weekend

Use your weekend to play catch up with what you were not able to get to. Use it to catch up on what you procrastinated over the week.

This list I created is meant to give you a starting point to create your own list that works best for you. If you are able to create this for yourself, it is my hope that you will be able to control the procrastination beast and take back the control you once had over your life and your time.

Your last note of encouragement is to remember that although today may be difficult, it won’t last forever. If all goes well, your tomorrow will be a bit brighter and you will be able to breathe knowing whatever burden you are carrying will be but for a short time.

Enjoying The Stillness

Did you wake up to the sounds of the birds singing this morning?

How many times in the busyness of your mornings do you wake up in a state of panic?

  • A panic of being late.
  • A panic of being frazzled.
  • A panic of anxiety and stress.
  • A panic of a meeting.
  • A panic of meeting a deadline.
  • A panic of what bothers you the most.

Now life has slowed down, stop and take the time to enjoy the peacefulness of the stillness.

I challenge you stop to this morning to take in the sounds of the quietness and the enjoy the beauty of the birds singing.

Focus on Power of Positivity

During this difficult time it is easy to forget there is power in positivity and forget to focus on things we should be thankful for, so today I want to briefly focus on these.

The Bible reminds us the importance of being thankful;

“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”

‭‭1 Thessalonians‬ ‭5:18‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Now think about the powerful words, “in all circumstances.”

The Bible does not say in certain circumstances. It doesn’t say in good circumstances. It says in “all” circumstances.

All too many times we can find things to be thankful for when life is going easy, but when times become difficult, it is easy to forget this concept.

During difficult times we become consumed by fear and anxiety and allow those dark and heavy emotions to run our hearts into the ground. They take away the ability to see the positive and encouraging things in our life. They rob us of our ability to the thankful of even the simple things in life.

Today we are going reclaim those pleasures that may have been robbed from us. Today we are going to list five things that bring us joy and thankfulness.

What are just five things that bring you joy and peace and what are you thankful for?

Here is my list of five things I am thankful today…

  • 1. Hearing the sweet birds chirping outside my windows. So many times in the busyness of life, I don’t think we take the time to hear them. But in the quietness of my morning I heard them this morning. It was a sweet sound to my soul. 
  • 2. Whether church was closed down or not, I would not have been able to go due to trying to get over my bronchitis. So I’m thankful for the technology that offers our church service to be viewed online in the quiet of my living room. 
  • 3. I am thankful for the time, that I don’t normally have to “rest”. I have been sick for 3 weeks and have not had the opportunity to rest until now. Had we not had this shut down, I would still not be able to rest, but when life has forced you to stay home, I am choosing to be thankful for it. I am determined to rest to get over this ugly cold. 
  • 4. I am thankful for the school we work at. My daughter and I received news that the school has figured out a way to pay their part-time staff for 2 weeks with the hopes of getting us closer to the end of this quarantine period. This truly touched my heart because they did not have to try to figure this out, let alone find a way. This was a huge blessing to us. 
  • 5. Lastly, I am thankful for all the spring that is in the air. I love seeing the trees dressed in their beautiful pink and white blossoms. Their is something inspiring by seeing all this new growth coming back to life. It inspires me to clean up my home and my property and make it fresh and clean again.

Breathe In Peace and Tranquility

During these uncertain times, we can find a peace that passes all understanding in our God in Heaven.

And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Today is a wonderful day to be reminded there is power in a peaceful heart.

Take some time today to reach out to those things that enable you to just exhale the pressures of your life and inhale the peacefulness of tranquility.

What does tranquility mean? What is the definition?

Let’s Get Moving

Good Morning & Happy Weekend

I am stopping by to encourage you that no matter what is going on we can find our strength within our selves.

“You have power over your mind – not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength.”

Are you feeling overwhelmed?

If so, ask God to lift this concern, fear, or anxiety: and replace it with comfort, peace, and hope.

Then get physical and let’s get moving.

Consider doing something you have not had time to do when you are living your busy life.

  • Do you have a closet that has you disgusted every time you open it? Consider cleaning and reorganizing it.
  • Do your kids have their toys all over the house and you get tired of stepping over them or moving them? Consider an organized method of storing them that makes both you and them happy.
  • Do you have a yard that has you frustrated and discouraged every time you come and go from your home? Consider taking this extra time you have and clean it up. Get physical and start cutting, cleaning, reshaping your flower beds. You will be so happy with the end result and the self-satisfaction will leave you feeling accomplished and relieved to have it done.
  • Do you need some physical activity? Consider now to start that walking or running routine. You can do this without a gym. Go outside and take a walk or run down your street or around your neighborhood. The fresh air will help to clear your mind and rejuvenate your mind, body, and soul.

It doesn’t matter what you do. What matters is that you get up and get moving.

The activity will enable you to clear your mind of the negativity and replace it with your happy endorphins. You will feel accomplished and the sense of accomplishment will defeat the feeling of anxiety.

Lastly, fight back against the urge of nothingness. Anxiety will tell you no, do not do this, but have the courage and find the strength to fight the resistance.

You will feel so much better if you do.

Replacing Anxiety with Gratitude, Loving, And Kind Gestures

We are closing out an extremely difficult week for many people. For anyone who has followed the news or social media feeds, you are well aware of the state our world is in.

I have come to realize over the week there are many people who are struggling with anxiety and so it has inspired me to step up my game to provide you with some encouragement as well as some strategies in how to handle the crisis that is being created by staying at home all the time.

As I was pondering what would make life a bit easier, I came up with three forms of positivity you can share with yourself as well as others to ease any frustrations, fear and anxiety you may be feeling.

Here are my thoughts for today.

  • Have a Heart of Gratitude

This is one of the greatest components to defeating anxiety. Have you ever thought about this before? Have you ever been extremely stressed out or been full of anxiety while still being thankful for your many blessings?

I’m not sure about you, but when fear and anxiety takes root in my life, they usually place inconceivable thoughts in my head which takes over my ability to think rationally and be thankful for the positive things that occur.

Having hearts of gratitude allows you the power to drowned out the darkness and the lies fear and anxiety place in your mind.

I am not saying it will be easy, but this is how God would want us to respond to the fear, stress, and anxiety we are experiencing.

  • Love on Others

This may not always be easy because there are times when they lash out irrationally at us.

What we have to remember is that this inappropriate behavior is a result of their fear, stress, and anxiety and not anything you have done. Despite this knowledge, it is important for us to be loving towards others whether they are loving towards us or not.

I am not saying it will be easy, but this is how God would want us to respond.

  • Show Kindness To Others

I don’t know about you, but the times of my being out of the house between working, doctor appointments for my daughter, and grocery store errands, I have come in contact with my fair share of rude people.

In the beginning of the crisis it was easy for me to just turn and walk away from them, but now it is getting harder.

The rudeness is becoming more and more prevalent which is making the act of kindness more and more difficult.

It however, does not matter how rude they are because the Lord wants us to share our kindness with them anyway.

We may never know, but God can use our kind hearts to change the hard heart of their aggressive behavior and truly turn them around while softening their hearts at the same time.

Some simple ways to show kindness to others might come through a simple smile as you pass by someone. Bake some cookies and place them on your neighbor’s door step. Mow an elderly neighbor’s lawn. Assist a senior in the store or make your family’s favorite dessert and watch your favorite movie together.

An act of kindness does not need to be difficult, it just needs to come from your heart, but it can truly turn around the heart of someone who may be struggling right now.

So, in conclusion to today’s inspiration, it is important to remember no matter how frustrated, fearful, or anxious you may feel, it is possible to turn you feelings around by taking some time to focus on finding some gratitude in at least one thing that happens today. Find a loving gesture to share with someone and share an act of kindness with someone to brighten their day.

Take some time to step away from the negativity you may be experiencing and turn it into something positive.

You’ve got this. You can do this. Life will not remain this difficult and there are brighter days ahead.
