It Is Better To Give Than To Receive

Encouragement Today

design-177Today’s encouragement is inspired by the Brian Tracy quote,

“Successful people are always looking for opportunities to help others. Unsuccessful people are always asking, what’s in it for me.”

I am going to go out on a limb and say, I think we all know that person who is always asking for help, always looking for a handout, always looking for someone to do something for them, but never gives back when they see others in need.

My friend, it is okay to seek help when you need it, but do not fall into the trap of always being the person to ask and seek what others can do for you without ever giving back to others when you see them in need.

Do not allow your difficult circumstances to become your excuse for always needing someone to help you. There is a good feeling you receive when you do for yourself.

Unless you have a physical handicap that prevents you from doing something then try to help yourself first.

I have seen and still see many spouses of deployed Military Service Members who play the incapable card and I find that extremely frustrating. I can understand when you have plumbing or electrical issues because those are most likely over your head, but you are fully capable of mowing your lawn or shoveling your snow. Do not use your difficult circumstances of a deployment as your crutch to be lazy.

I am saying this with love because I personally know how hard it is to keep up with everything. It is not wrong to accept help, but do not use your deployed spouse as your excuse to not help yourself.

I know many strong people who have experienced the loss of their spouse and see them struggle with health issues, but they still do for themselves. When they seek help, they give back. They appreciate the help when it is received, but never uses their difficult circumstances as a crutch to have or make people feel sorry for them.

My friend, life may be tough, but stand up and be stronger than your circumstances. You will persevere and you will experience that sense of accomplishment for the struggles you fight through.

Ask for help if you need it, but the key to this post is to give back when you see others in need of help as well. Do not always take from others without looking for opportunities to give back.

Disclaimer: I am sorry if this offends anyone as it was not intended for that reason. Today I am speaking from my heart and it seriously bothers me when I see fully capable people preying on the mercy of others when they can help themselves.
